Some Facts about Windshield Repair:

  • Stone bruises, chips, and cracks in your windshield will not disappear. However, there should be a noticeable improvement in the damaged area.

  • Repairs are not recommended in the "acute area", a space approximately 14" wide and 10" high immediately in front of the driver's vision. This is because it is normal for a shadow, or outline of the damage to remain after the repair is completed.

  • Windshield repairs involve a certain degree of risk as far as cracking of the windshield. This is because the resin is injected under pressure into the damaged area. Normally, the risk of breakage is around 1%. Should you have any concerns, this should be discussed with the staff at Haida Glass Ltd. before the work begins.

  • If the repair is complete and you are not satisfied, you have the option of returning to Haida Glass Ltd. and obtaining an insurance claim for the replacement of your windshield. The cost of the repair will be applied towards your replacement windshield.

  • Windshield repairs are a widely accepted method of keeping costs down to the insurance companies, and thereby to you the motorist. Replacement costs can often be averted by using repairs as an acceptable alternative to both the motorist and insurance company.

Q: I have a broken windshield. What do I need to do to get my vehicle glass repaired or replaced?
A: Haida Glass Ltd. is an ICBC Glass Express Shop and can also process almost all other insurance claims. You do not have to go to ICBC anymore - just come directly to our shop. You will only have to pay Haida Glass Ltd. for your deductible and the insurance company will pay for the rest.


Q: What's the difference between my windshield and the rest of the glass in my car? Isn't glass just glass?
A: No - there is a very important difference between your windshield and the rest of the glass in your car.

Your windshield is made up of LAMINATED GLASS which is designed to offer optimum safety in the event of a crash. It is made up of two pieces of glass with a thin layer of vinyl sandwiched between them. In a more severe impact, the glass "shatters" but usually does not fly apart as the broken pieces of glass generally adhere to the vinyl inner lining.

The side and rear windows are made up of TEMPERED GLASS. As the name implies, the glass has been "tempered", i.e. put through a special process where it is heated, then rapidly cooled. This "tempering" process makes glass many times stronger than non-tempered glass of the same thickness. Upon impact, TEMPERED GLASS is designed to shatter into very small pieces of glass about the size of rock salt. There should be no large jagged pieces of glass to injure the driver or passengers.


Q: Does my windshield really protect me?
A: Yes. Your windshield plays an integral part in roof crush protection in a roll-over accident. It also provides the brace for your passenger-side air bag. If your windshield loses adhesion on a collision or roll-over, your safety is in jeopardy. This is why it is important that your auto glass work be done by a fully trained professional.


Q: I have a crack or a ding in my windshield - is it really important that I fix it right away?
A: Yes! It is very important for two reasons.

 

1. If the ding is small, it may be repairable. This means that we can "mend" the break without replacing your windshield. Repairing your windshield typically takes less than 30 minutes, and is fully guaranteed by Haida Glass Ltd. If for any reason it fails, the cost of the repair will be applied towards a replacement windshield.

2. The second reason to have a damaged windshield fixed is for your safety. The windshield is more than just a "shield" from wind, rain and dirt, it's an important structural element of your car. It helps keep you and your passengers in the car in a front impact accident, and keep your car's airbag in the optimum position so it can function as designed. If your windshield is weakened due to damage, it could be very dangerous to you and your passengers in the event of an accident. Also, damaged glass may cause optical impediments when driving, particularly at eye level which is a significant safety hazard.



Q: What type of guarantee is there for autoglass installation ?

Coverage for damages caused by or resulting from unreasonable use, maintenance, or care of the vehicle is excluded.
